Ratatosk the squirrel runs up and down Yggdrasil telling Nidhogg (the Wyrm who dwells at the root) and Hraesvelgr (the eagle who resides at the top) nasty things about one another to stir up malice.
He represents the way in which people can use words to create problems. We must guard against gossip and not be drawn into unfounded rumours. It can make an unnecessary enemy from a possible neutral stranger.
In our everyday lives we no doubt come across people who spread rumours, lies and create divisions between people, who have not understood the lesson of Ratatosk. We should remember his influence and not leap too soon into judgements about others.
